LEAKS: Water keeps on seeping away while metro calls for restrictions

While the Ekurhuleni Metro has imposed water restrictions due to the ongoing drought, it seems there is also no great haste to fix water leaks.

The Advertiser reported last week about a serious water leak at the ERPM Golf Course.

At the time Themba Gadebe, metro spokesperson, said repairs at the golf course have been delayed due to the size of the pipeline.

He said the manufacturer of the pipe has been engaged to prepare a specialised clamp.

The leak was first reported a few weeks ago by a resident of Boksburg, Matthew Baxter.

Baxter first reported the leak to the metro and then to Rand Water in the hope that it could be repaired quickly, considering the country’s reservoirs are running low.

By this morning (November 16), Baxter said the leak has still not been fixed.

“In fact, I think it is getting worse. The metro workers it seems have attempted to repair the leak on November 11 and two days later. Problem is still not resolved.”

* In the meantime, Lynette Roux, who lives in Second Avenue, Ravenswood, said they have experienced a water leak in the street since last week.

“The municipality apparently dug open the street on Thursday morning (November 12).  Nothing has, however, been done since to stop the leak).
