Brig Poobalan Subbiah, acting Benoni SAPS cluster commander, told the Benoni City Times the officers were driving in separate vehicles behind a marked courier vehicle, as they were running checks on it.
The acting cluster commander said the courier vehicle was hijacked on the N12 this morning, near Delmas.
One of the hijackers was shot by the courier vehicle’s support team.
He is still alive.
