Suspected car thief shot in Beyers Park dies from gun wounds

The man who was shot and injured during an alleged attempted car theft in Beyers Park had succumbed to his injuries.

Police confirmed he died at the Tambo Memorial Hospital in the early hours of November 7.

This incident occurred on October 30, when owner of the vehicle heard a loud bang at around 3.30am, while he was busy in the kitchen at his home in Beyers Park.

He then went out onto the balcony to see what was wrong and noticed two unknown men breaking into his bakkie.

Boksburg North SAPS communication officer Lieut Juanita Coetzer said the owner was then allegedly approached by the suspect in a threatening manner.

“The owner shouted at the suspect who was approaching him, telling him to stop, but he kept coming,” said Coetzer.

The owner fired at the suspect, wounding him in the lower body.

The other suspect, who was unhurt, ran away.

The Boksburg North SAPS were called and a case of attempted theft of motor vehicle was opened.

Coetzer said now that the suspect is dead, the court will decide on the proceedings of the case as investigation continues.
