Bikers proudly wear pink to ride against breast cancer

Bikers from all over Ekurhuleni came out in full force, wearing their biker gear topped with a pink colour combination, as part of the Pink Glove Run in aid of breast cancer.

Harley Davidson Africa and its 11 authorised dealer partners, including Gold Rand Harley-Davidson in Boksburg, each year continues to raise awareness and funds in aid of breast cancer.

As part of this initiative, Harley-Davidson Africa hosted a mass ride through the streets of Boksburg, Brakpan and Benoni on Saturday, October 31.

Kevin Prinsloo and Wayne Simpson, organisers of the ride from the Gold Rand Harley-Davidson (HOG Chapter), said they received a wonderful response.

“We want all South Africans to unite and take action in order for us to kick cancer,” said Simpson.

“Our vision is to break down the barrier of perceptions that it won’t happen to someone, or that someone is too young to get cancer.

“This is exactly why we joined hands with the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) to educate, for example, women on the risks, the signs and, more importantly, the way they can protect themselves and their loved ones.”

According to Juan Mouton, marketing manager of Harley-Davidson Africa, this year the goal was to at least double the R100 000 raised last year.

Cansa’s head of health, Prof Michael Herbst, applauded the creative initiative that Harley-Davidson Africa has taken.

“”It aligns perfectly with our strategy of providing reliable health information and education in the fight against cancer,” he said.

Those who wish to support the campaign can purchase one-of-a-kind pink buff at participating Harley-Davidson dealerships.

All funds raised during the two months will be donated to Cansa.
