Nine drivers locked up for speeding in Boksburg

Nine drivers were arrested on Friday, October 30 for overly going beyond the speed limit of 60km/h on the stretch of road on Dudley Smith between Langenhoven and Jubilee streets.

According to Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, this stretch of the road has seen a fair share of horrific accidents in the recent past as well as near terrible misses attributable to excessive speeding.

“This location is in a built-up area with kindergartens, a mall nearby and with a huge pedestrian traffic,” said Kgasago. “For this reason a special operation was held on Friday between 5am and 6.30m.

“All the arrested drivers claimed that they were late for work.

“The highest speed recorded was 128km/h. The second highest clocked 106km/h and the remainder were caught doing speeds of between 102 and 97km/h.

“Charges of reckless and negligent driving were laid against the arrested drivers at Boksburg police station.

“They were all released after posting bail of R1500 each.”

They are expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
