Decomposing body found in the bushes behind SPCA
Boksburg police are appealing for information to help them to identify a man whose decomposing body was found in the bushes behind the Boksburig SPCA.
The body was discovered by EMPD members Jabu Mathaba and Nkululeko Thathawe at about 3.30pm, on Tuesday, October 27.
According to Mathaba, while they were carrying out their duties, a man who appeared terrified stopped them with the news that he had stumbled upon a dead body.
“He was very scared to go back to the exact spot and he gave us direction to the scene; upon investigating we found a decomposing body covered with swarms of flies on the ground,” said Mathaba.
The body was still dressed in a black vest top and navy blue track pants.
Blankets and shoes were also found next to the body.
The victim is believed to have been in his 30s, and the Boksburg police suspect that he was homeless.
“It is still unclear what transpired, but an inquest docket was registered,” said the Boksburg SAPS’s Lieut Kwendzakwakhe Ngobese.
“Our investigators are now trying to establish what led to the man’s death, and they are making inquiries to identify him.
“We are urgently seeking assistance from the public, as well.”
Ngobese said the body, which bore no visible stab or bullet wounds, was taken to the Germiston State Mortuary for the necessary post-mortem and collection of forensic evidence.
“The investigators would appreciate any information regarding the identity of the man and what transpired before his body was found there,” he added.
