German student visits Boksburg on exchange programme

The Boksburg Lake Rotary Club recently hosted German student Noah Koene (15), as part of its short term exchange programme.

Koene visited the country for six weeks, with the purpose of creating international goodwill and understanding.

“As always, hosting an exchange student is a joyful experience, packed with fun and interesting visits and Koene had a wonderful time in South Africa,” said Rotary Assistant Governor Martin Stokes, who is also a past president of the Rotary Club of Boksburg Lake.

“His host family was Nardus and Dolly Potgieter of Boksburg, and their youngest son, Johan,” Stokes added.

“Among other activities, they took him to many local sights, including Badplaas and Moletane Lodge in the Nylstroom area, and travelled the Garden Route.

“Fortunately there was no communication problem at all, as Koene speaks fluent English and as his roots are in the Netherlands; he could even make himself understood in Afrikaans if necessary,” said Stokes.

“We are thankful for the host parents who left no stone unturned to show the student the country and introduce him to our culture.”
