Ekurhuleni launches summer tourism campaign

The Ekurhuleni Municipality has launched its Spring-in2-Summer campaign, themed “Expect only Amazing”, in celebration of Tourism Month.

Part of the celebrations is the Ekurhuleni Spring Fiesta, to be held this weekend, in Boksburg.

And then, the Ekurhuleni Comes Alive Jazz evening will be held every second Friday of the month, featuring only the cream of the crop of South Africa’s music scene.

On October 9, Sibongile Khumalo will be headlining the event, which will also see Zahara, Flatoe and comedian Thapelo Mametja on stage.

The Wild Waters complex will again set out to cool the summer heat on October 10, with the H2O Final Wave.

Choral music lovers will be serenaded by the angelic voices of choristers competing for the number one spot in the Melting Pot National Choral Festival, at Carnival City, on October 30 and November 1.

The competition is held annually in honour of the late Freeman of the City, Oliver Tambo.

There is also something in store for sportsmen and women, as the city of Ekurhuleni hosts the 5150 African Championships on November 1.

This is the third year that the pristine Germiston Lake Park hosts the triathlon.

“Spring-in2-Summer is the city’s seasonal tourism lifestyle campaign, which seeks to demystify the image that Ekurhuleni is the industrial site of Gauteng.

“It is intended to promote domestic tourism by informing local citizens of the leisure offerings in their own backyard,” said Member of Mayoral Committee for Economic Development,Thumbu Mahlangu.

“Furthermore, these lifestyle events attract a number of visitors to Ekurhuleni which, in turn, contributes to our economy.”

To usher in the New Year, Ekurhuleni will again be the host city of the South African Open Golf Championship, which will be held from January 7 to 11.
