Mrs SA finalist still actively involved in community campaigns

In the past few months local Mrs SA 2015 finalist Jacqui Fernandez has been engaged in a tight, but exciting, schedule.

She’s been involved in a number of charitable activities over the past few months, leading up to the Grand Finale, which will take place at Emperors Palace on October 9.

Fernandez has been working with Addict Magazine, trying to bring awareness among young children and teenagers.

Together with the magazine, she held an anti-drug campaign at Urban Ruins, where she invited former addicts to share their stories with the young children, to teach them about the bad effects of drugs.

“It has been such an eye opener for me, that we can make a difference in our community if we just try,” said Fernandez.

“The children at the Ruins have become a big part of my life, I have grown to love and know them.”

She will be hosting a Mr and Miss Urban Ruins pageant, in November.

On Saturday, September 19, Fernandez organised a day with the Strathyre Girls Orphanage, in Kensington.

“I arranged for each girl to get a sponsor and they were spoilt with things that we, who are in fortunate position, take for granted – things like toiletries, pyjamas and shoes,” she said.

“It was so uplifting and I look forward to working with them in the future.”

Fernandez also went to Khulani Pre-Primary and brought awareness of the importance of recycling

She also raised over R10 000 at a function she held in aid of Cansa.

She is currently shooting a calendar with women who are passionate about raising money for Cansa.

“They have all had someone dear to them who has been affected by cancer or even passed away. I am hoping that once the calendar is printed it will be hugely successful,” said Fernandez.
