Children on school bus come under pepper spray attack

A group of Comet Primary School children were taken to hospital after being sprayed with pepper spray while travelling on a school bus in Boksburg North.

It was reported that about a hundred children were travelling on the bus to the school, through Cason, when they were attacked recently.

A man, who emerged from a nearby home, allegedly discharged pepper spray through the opened windows as the bus passed close to his yard.

The motive for the attack is still unclear, but according to a source, the alleged attacker initially accused the children of teasing his dogs, whenever the bus drives pass his yard.

The suspect was later arrested and charged with assault.

He was subsequently released, but investigation continues.

According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Lieut Kwendzakwakhe Ngobese, about 10 of the terrified children became ill and they were taken to Tambo Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Ward councillor Hillary Coke denounced the attack stating that the perpetrator has to be dealt with accordingly.

She described the attack as a ‘barbaric’ assault on innocent children.

Most of the children in transit are from the local informal settlement, including Delmore, Angelo and Jerusalem. -@FanieFLK
