EBA impressed with metro achieving energy targets

The Ekurhuleni Business Association (EBA) is impressed that the metro has achieved its targets on all objectives set for the year 2014, in regard to supplying energy .

According to EBA chairman,Ramatiyane Seepe, these included the electrification of households, the erection of lighting masts, installation of street lights and substation upgrades.

The EBA also expressed its approval of the recorded reduction in the number of unplanned outages between 2013 and 2014.

“Specifically, we have noted that the percentage of outages restored between 1.5 and three hours is improving,” said Seepe.

“Plans for the development of alternative energy sources are also to be lauded, with the installation of solar panels in Wattville and the plans for a solar farm.”

Seepe said the renewable energy plans for three landfill generator sites have been well received by business.

“We applaud the metro for ensuring skills development takes place, by offering practical electrical training for artisans and assisting experiential trainees to obtain their electrical engineering diplomas,” he added.

“The metro’s endeavours to avoid load shedding in the industrial areas has definitely boosted the business sector.

”We, as the EBA, understand that this could not be done in businesses located in the commercial areas.

“We are holding thumbs that, with more focus on renewable energy, the municipality will, in future, be able to ensure a continuous supply of power to Ekurhuleni for both commercial as well as residential areas.

“We therefore thank the metro’s electricity department for its efforts to provide an improved service and engagements with the businesses of Ekurhuleni.”
