Man caught red-handed stealing from shop

A suspected thief landed in hot water after police caught him stealing from a business on Market Street, Boksburg CBD, during the early hours of Saturday, August 29.

According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, Lieut Kwendzakwakhe Ngobese the police officers noticed a hole through the window of the shop during a joint crime prevention operation.

A commotion inside the shop prompted the officers to form a cordon around the business, waiting for the alleged thief to exit the shop.

Eventually a man emerged from the shop through the window carrying his loot, including airtime vouchers and cash.

He was immediately arrested and was charged with burglary and theft.

The incident was also reported to the owner of the shop, who later arrived at the police station.

* A few moment later police received a complaint about a thug, who robbed someone of his belongings at knife point and ran towards the Boksburg Lake.

A manhunt was initiated and officers managed to catch the suspect at the lake.

He was found in possession of the victim’s belongings, including a cellphone, documents, bank cards and a wallet as well as the suspect’s weapon (the knife).

The suspect was also found in possession of other goods, which includes groceries and 40 watch batteries, believed to have been stolen from a shop. -@FanieFLK
