COURT NEWS: Eight years in jail for housebreaking and theft

The following cases were heard in the Boksburg Magistrates Court:

* Thando Dlomo (25), of Angelo informal settlement, was convicted of housebreaking with the intention to steal, and theft.

On July 28, Dlomo broke into the property of Gert Liebenberg in Rose Street, Boksburg and stole four watches, a gold necklace and seven rings, among other things. He pleaded guilty on August 14, and the court also found him guilty as charged.

He has previous convictions for robbery and drug possession.

He was sentenced to eight years in prison, of which one was suspended for five years.

Magistrate Abel Ramufhufhi presided and prosecutor Jabu Motha represented the state.

* Ntokozo Khumalo (19), of Vosloorus, was convicted of theft on June 18.

The accused stole a baby walker and pram on May 11, in Vosloorus. He has a conviction for theft dating back to 2013.

The accused was sentenced to three years imprisonment.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided and prosecutor Themba Maluleke represented the state.

* Xolani Zikhali (19), of Villa Lisa, was sent to prison for pointing a firearm and attempted rape.

On April 27, Zikhali unlawfully pointed a firearm at Phila Msimang and attempted to rape her.

He pleaded not guilty to both charges, but the court found him guilty as charged.

He has a conviction for possession of drugs dating back to 2013.

He was sentenced to six years imprisonment on each charge and the sentences will run concurrently.

Magistrate Sijren Harichand presided and prosecutor Nkosazana Tyeku represented the state.

* Quintin Browning (30), of Dalpark, was convicted of theft on August 19.

This is after he stole R3 782 in cash from Adiocol (Pty) Ltd, on June 30.

He was sentenced to 12 months in prison, wholly suspended for five years.

He was also convicted of theft in May, 2015.

Magistrate Emmanuel Magampa presided and prosecutor Angeline Mooiman represented the state.
