Attempted car theft leaves woman shocked

A local woman, who was with her friend and the friend’s son, underwent a traumatic ordeal when she nearly had her Golf stolen on Friday, August 14, at around 6.30pm.

The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, to protect herself, said: “We went inside the Spar and after just seven minutes we came out.

“As we were approaching the car I noticed that someone was in it and I then asked my friend if we had left someone in the car, and she replied no.

“I immediately knew something was wrong and, as I approached, a guy got out and ran to the getaway car, which sped off.”

The woman said that, before she went inside the Spar, she noticed a Toyota Conquest with two occupants parked next to her car.

The getaway car was the one which parked next to them.

The would be robber took nothing from the car, but he broke the ignition system and the passenger side door.

“I would like to advise everyone to always be cautious of their surroundings and to be safe where ever they go,” the woman said.

The manager of the Spar, who did not want to be named, said: “Apparently there was an incident where someone tried to break into someone’s car. Nothing like this has ever happened here before.”

The incident wasn’t reported to the police.
