STOLEN COPPER: Goods mysteriously dumped in Boksburg

The 'owner' of the millions worth of copper that was discovered at a scrapyard in Craig Road this morning is nowhere to be found.

Contrary to the JMPD’s report earlier today that the owner of the establishment, Metal Connection, was arrested, the Advertiser learned on arrival at the scene that no arrest has taken place.

Hundreds of pure copper sheets were abandoned on the premises, but the culprits who downloaded the goods have disappeared.

It is suspected that the copper was stolen in Botswana.

Following a lengthy discussion between the police and the owners of Metal Connection, the sheets were moved to the back of the property and were expected to be moved to a police storage later today.

JMPD’s Wayne Minaar estimated the copper to be worth R4-million.

The Hawks are still at the scene investigating.
