Spring into action this Casual Day

Millions of South Africans are being creative about planning their outfits for Casual Day, on Friday September 4.

Apart from the obligatory sticker, they are preparing to celebrate spring.

Casual Day provides the country with the opportunity to show their solidarity with persons with disabilities, at the same time as they enjoy team-building and camaraderie with their fellow participants.

It gives South Africans the opportunity to be creative and have fun while contributing to the betterment of society.

The theme for 2015 is Spring into Action, so take your inspiration from the birds and the bees, from new leaves and blossoms on the trees, and from nature all around.

This year’s colour is refreshing, zingy mint.

You can wear floral or animal prints, Hawaiian shirts with chinos, as long as you use a lot of colour.

Put flowers in your hair, decorate a hat with paper flowers or just wear the Casual Day official golf shirt that you can buy from one of your local organisations.

But, most important, get your sticker, which is your ”licence” to participate on Casual Day.

This year there will be five different collector’s stickers, each with a different image, so you can wear a bouquet of stickers to celebrate your commitment to improving the world for persons with disabilities

Your R10 donation will go towards providing education, job creation, transport, assistive devices and emotional support to persons with disabilities through the 500 organisations that participate.

The project is owned by the National Council for Persons with Physical Disabilities in SA (NCPPDSA).

“We are ecstatic about the response from South Africans to the project,” said Therina Wentzel, national director of NCPPDSA.

“With the world economy in turmoil and a decline in funding for NGOs from corporations and government, Casual Day is going from strength to strength, raising R28-million in 2014.

“Casual Day is a lifeline for many organisations of persons with disabilities.”

Get your stickers from local participating organisations, or from Edgars, Jet, JetMart, Boardmans, CNA, Red Square and Legit, Absa outlets, Game and DionWired, Shoprite and Checkers stores.
