Stopping car thieves was a ‘crazy’ experience

A Boksburg resident, who now wishes to remain anonymous, told a tale of how he and his friend managed to stop thieves in action on Friday, July 31.

The man prevented his boss’s BMW X5 from being stolen at the K90 Centre, at around 3.30pm.

Describing it as a crazy experience, the man said he was sitting outside one of the stores when he noticed someone inside his boss’s vehicle.

“A friend and I saw the person in the car and we asked the owner if she left had anyone in the car. When she said no, we knew there was trouble,” he said.

There and then adrenaline just kicked in and the two men quickly ran towards to the car.

Upon noticing that he was being pursued, the would-be thief abandoned the mission and jumped into his accomplice’s car.

“As they driving away, my friend jumped onto their car, damaging the bonnet, windscreen and roof, while I smashed my fist through the window and hit the passenger in the face,” he said.

“I ran about 1km after them on North Rand Road, but they managed to get away.”

He said the men, who were travelling in a White Opel Corsa new shape, with registration YGL742GP, were driving into oncoming traffic.

What bothers him more is that they were driving into oncoming traffic and not single person bothered to do anything about it.

He said he saw the passenger from the Corsa getting out and climbing into another vehicle that sped away.

“He was carrying a briefcase which, I believe, contained the device they used to jam my boss’s car,” he said.

The resident believes the men followed their boss and then waited for a convenient time to jam the signal.
