Sister furious as prison warder gets bail

The sister of the woman who was apparently strangled to death by a Boksburg prison warder is angry that the suspect has been released on bail.

The warder allegedly strangled his girlfriend to death in January, and left a supposed suicide note next to the body.

“We are still in the process of gathering evidence against the accused; the suspect has been released on bail until the investigation is finalised, due to a lack of witnesses,” said Const Cedrik Mashiane, spokesperson for the Dawn Park Police Station.

The suspect apparently strangled the woman following an argument.

Nelly Manaka, who is the sister of the deceased, said: “This is crazy, what is happening with the case, because it seems like the police are not doing their job.

“For how long will the investigation drag? Two years might still pass and the suspect will still be roaming the streets. This is hurting us as a family, as we want closure and justice to be done.”
