No arrests in fake cop heist, financial crime investigation underway

More than seven days has passed since daring robbers fled with thousands of rand stolen from a businessman, while at the same time robbing police officers of their service pistols.

Yet police have made no arrest in connection with the broad daylight robbery, which has been described as ‘a well-planned cash heist’.

The robbers, acting under the guise of being the police, initially attacked the victim, who was at the time driving in a Ford Fiesta along Rondebult Road, Parkdene, before they robbed the real officers upon their arrival at the scene.

During the robbery, the thugs reportedly helped themselves to the victim’s money but left about R300 000 behind because they were apparently disrupted by the real officers.

The police have also confirmed that the robbery has triggered a financial crime investigation.

An investigation is underway as the robbery victim was apparently transporting more than half a million rand in his car before he was attacked.

He did not have security guards escort at the time.

It is still unclear as to where the cash was being transported from or where it was destined for.

A source told this publication that the driver of the Ford allegedly collected the money from his clients mere hours before the robbery.

A spokesperson for the Boksburg SAPS, Lieut Kwendzakwakhe Ngobese, did not provide any further details about the investigation.- @FanieFLK
