Brave residents prevent car theft at K90, smash thieves’ vehicle

Heroic actions of Boksburg resident Clinton Festraets and his friend prevented his boss’s BMW X5 from being stolen at the K90 Centre.

The incident occurred yesterday, July 31, at around 3.30pm.

Festraets  said the men followed their boss from DisChem, situated in the same centre.

“They jammed her car when she parked,” said Festraets.

One of the would-be thieves can be seen in the video attempting to open the vehicle’s rear door first before going for the driver’s door which he managed to open and climbed into the vehicle.

Festraets and his friend, who were sitting outside, noticed the man’s action and quickly rushed to the car.

Upon noticing that he was being pursued, he abandoned the mission and jumped into his accomplice’s car.

“As they driving away,  my friend jumped onto their car, damaging the bonnet, windscreen and roof while I smashed my fist through the window and hit the passenger in the face.

“I ran about 1km after them on North Rand Road but they managed to get away.

He said the men, who were traveling in a White Opel Corsa new shape, with registration YGL742GP, were driving onto oncoming traffic.

He urged anyone who sees the vehicle to please contact him on 0765411159.
