“They chose to rather keep the cub and make a cage for the youngster in the back garden.
“We cannot understand how someone who claims to love an animal can then actively choose to place this same animal in a cage,” said the SPCA.
The SPCA said this simply does not compute.
“It is the Boksburg SPCAs honest opinion that the non-existent regulations that currently permit people to hold exotic pets such as tigers with no issue, while animals such as tortoises (for example) require a permit, be reviewed.
“Exotic animals are being held in situations that are not beneficial to them in any way.”
