Imprisoned for stealing margarine worth R300 000

The following cases were heard in the Boksburg Magistrates Court:

* Vukani Mbangiseni Dlamini (30), of Etwatwa, was convicted of a charge of theft on June 8.

In December 2014, Dlamini and his two co accused, Sibusiso Khumalo and Modise Matlogela, both from Daveyton, stole Rama margarine belonging to Unilever Boksburg valued at R329 559.76.

The two co accused have since been discharged and Dlamini was sentenced to five years in prison on July 15.

He will serve an effective 10 months in prison and the rest will be served under correctional supervision.

The court also declared him unfit to possess a firearm.

Magistrate Abel Silubana presided over the case and Maria Olivier represented the state.

* Lefa Kenneth Mbele (25), of Vosloorus, was convicted of attempted theft on July 21.

Mbele pleaded guilty to the charge on the same day and the court also found him guilty.

On July 2, Mbele unlawfully and intentionally intended to steal Nike takkies, three shirts, a jersey and a piece of luggage, valued at R3 160, belonging to Queen Mbele.

He was on parole when he committed the offence and the court sentenced him to three years in prison, not to run concurrently with other sentences he is currently serving.

He has been ruled unfit to possess a firearm.

Mbele has three previous convictions, committed in 2011, 2012 and 2014.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided and prosecutor Themba Maluleke represented the state.

* On July 20, Sithole Warra Wanda (38), of Rondebult, was convicted of housebreaking and theft with intent to steal and theft.

Wanda had pleaded guilty to theft after he intentionally and unlawfully broke into Themba Twala’s property in Vosloorus and stole an LCD plasma TV set on October 30, 2013.

He has a previous conviction for possession of stolen property, committed in 2004.

He was sentenced to three years and the sentence will not run concurrently with any other sentence he is currently serving.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided and prosecutor Themba Maluleke represented the state.

* Nkuna Chicco (38) pleaded guilty to housebreaking and theft on June 29.

The court also found him guilty as charged and sentenced him to 24 months imprisonment on July 22.

In December, 2013, the accused broke into the property belonging to Mahlatsi Maluleke and stole a Plasma TV, computer, home theatre and a pair of takkies.

He has no previous convictions.

* Simphiwe Edward Yiliwe (34), of Joe Slovo informal settlement, was convicted of murder on May 22.

The accused had pleaded not guilty on March 17, but the court found him guilty of killing Andiswa Mpofu, of Reiger Park, by stabbing him with a knife on June 30, 2013.

He had no previous convictions and was sentenced to eight years in prison on July 14.

Magistrate Colbert Ramofhufhi presided and prosecutor Nkosazana Tyeku represented the state.
