School to pay tribute to Dandre’ van Jaarsveld
Laerskool Baanbreker principal described as shocking the news that one of his pupils, Dandre' van Jaarsveld (11), died in an accident during the school holidays.
Principal Tom Hoffmann remembered Dandre’ as an academic who was excellent in mathematics.
“It’s very sad news for us – the event definitely came as a very big shock to all of us,” said Hoffmann.
Dandre’ was not active in sports at the school, but was a well loved scholar with a very good academic side.
Hoffmann said the children at the school were informed of their schoolmate’s death this morning (July 20) during assembly.
“We told them that when we closed for the holidays, we shook hands hoping to all meet when the school reopens and that it is only by grace that some of us came back,” he said.
Hoffmann said the school has erected a memorial in his name at the entrance to their offices.
His friends and classmates are also preparing a speech containing words of comfort for his family, to be delivered at the memorial service.
