Weeping father confirms son, partner deaths

The parents of Laerskool Baanbreker pupil Dandre' van Jaarsveld (11) confirmed that it is indeed their son who died in a horror accident on the N2 Highway between Umtentweni and Hibberdene, on July 13.

Dandre’s mother, Santie Benade said she was left “broken inside” while his father, Jurie van Jaarsveld, who also lost his life partner Colette Pistorius in the accident, described the incident as “very traumatic”.

Jurie, who was also in the accident, said the sight of watching his son die is not an easy one.

“We have lost a very dear part of us, however, this incident also brought us closer as a family, ” said the emotional Jurie.

Jurie said they were seven in the car when the accident occurred and two other people sustained serious injuries.

Dandre’s older brother, Johan (15), who goes to Hoërskool Oorsterlig, suffered a broken leg while his life partner’s son, Evan Pistorius, who attends Laerskool Elspark, is in ICU at hospital.

The other people who were in the involved vehicles, Enja Pistorius (child of Colette) from Laerskool Elspark and Ian Pistorius (brother of Evan) from Hoërskool Oosterlig, survived with minor injuries.

Jurie said they were returning home from a holiday when the incident occurred.
