TRAGEDY IN PLANTATION: Man struck by train

An unknown man was struck and killed by a commuter train in Plantation.

The incident occurred on Saturday, July 4, along a railway line situated next to the Trichardts Bridge close to the Boksburg railway station.

According Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Lieut Kwendzakwakhe Ngobese, Boksburg police officers attended the scene alongside paramedics.

The man’s body parts were scattered across the railway tracks.

Officers are working to identify him and inform his family.

The incident is currently not being treated as suspicious and an inquest docket has been registered.

It’s unclear if anyone on board the train was injured.

The Saturday train service also reportedly experienced delays as investigators tried to determine the cause of the accident.

“So far we only have sketchy information about what caused the collision,” said Ngobese.

Metrorail spokesperson Lillian Mofokeng could not be reached for comment on Monday morning.
