Much needed woolly blankets for the elderly

Beautifully knitted and crocheted blankets were made by Wool Centre Boksburg customers, for the elderly at Huis Dien Bothma.

Wool Centre donated the blankets, together with 37 beanies, 14 pairs of mittens and eight scarves, to the Hoërskool Dr EG Jansen student council on June 26, giving them the honour of handing the gifts over to the home.

According to Wool Centre owner Elizabeth Evans, the business engages in charity events each year.

Last year, she started asking her customers to crochet or knit blocks with their left-over wool.

“Our aim was to have 28 blankets for the end of June,” said Evans.

“Well, we were truly blessed with 56 blankets.”

Some customers bought wool and made complete knee blankets, while others volunteered to stitch blankets together.

“From myself, Carol-Anne Smith (knitting advisor) and Veila Blignaut (sales assistant and marketing), we would like to thank you – our customers – for your loyal, heartwarming support,” said Evans.
