Local animal Good Samaritan needs community’s help

Witfield-based animal rescuer Claudine Matthews is desperately in need of help to continue her project of providing help for needy and stray animals in the impoverished communities.

Mathews says she began reaching out to vulnerable animals a couple of years ago, when she realised how great a need there was for help in the informal settlements.

According to Matthews, she has, over the past years, saved a number of needy and stray dogs in the Angelo informal settlement, while providing animals with care, health, safety, shelter and welfare.

The single-handed non-profit-animal rescuer operates under the name ”Pawsrehoming”.

“Pawsrehoming is not an animal shelter, but assists in securing shelter for homeless dogs at our local animal havens,” Matthews said.

“Our services include rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming lost, abandoned and abused dogs, as well as the provision of food and medical care, including vaccinations and sterilisations.

“With the help of a carpenter living in the Angelo informal settlement, Pawsrehoming also manufactures kennels from wooden pallets.

“These kennels are then donated to the dog owners in the settlement, where most dogs sleep outside.”

Pawsrehoming sometimes renders its service to rescue and rehome other animals, including cats, goats, ducks, geese and donkeys.

Pawsrehoming is appealing for the donation of a flatbed-car-trailer to transport goods, including the kennels, pallets, dog food, tubs, blankets, beds, pet medication and supplies, dog collars and leashes, chains, corrugated roofing, fencing, gates, split poles, cement and cash donations for vet bills.

Anyone who can help should phone Matthews on 084 695 9887 to arrange for collection or delivery of any donations.
