Impala Park: Electrical cables replaced, open trenches concern

The Advertiser recently received complaints from Impala Park residents about trenches in the roads of the suburb, that have not been covered properly.

Residents argued that these trenches, dug up by the Ekurhuleni Metro workers, pose a danger to pedestrians and vehicles.

According to the DA’s councillor for Ward 92, Ashley Rutherford, the metro replaced all the electrical cables in Impala Park, but has not yet connected them.

This will prevent the regular power outages Impala Park residents experienced due to the old cables.

“The project should be finished, and all trenches covered with tar, by the end of June,” said Rutherford.

She thanked the residents for voicing their opinions on the power outages in Impala Park at the Integrated Development Plan meeting, last year, which led to the metro replacing the electrical cables.

She said if it were not for those residents nothing would have been done.

The Advertiser has not yet received a comment from the metro on the matter.
