Boksburg SPCA welcomes new manager

The Boksburg SPCA was introduced to its new manager, Maggie Mudd, on June 1.

This is, however, not Mudd’s first interaction with the Boksburg SPCA.

In the 1990s, she worked at begins the local society for seven years, before joining the NSPCA.

Five years later she, again, was part of the Boksburg SPCA on a one-year contract.

Mudd’s journey with the movement started at the tender age of 18, when she volunteered at the Standerton branch, in 1983.

She is already planning to revamp the local SPCA.

“My aim is to make the society more appealing to our visitors, as well as for the animals,” said Mudd.

“People must want to come here, without it being a burden.”

She said the Boksburg branch will assist with the sterilisation of animals that belong to the less fortunate.

“However, the community must understand that, as the SPCA, we will not assist with vaccinations if owners refuse to have their animal sterilised as well,” she added.

Help the SPCA

The Boksburg SPCA will have a ”revamp day” on June 20.

The society makes an appeal to those who wish to contribute or help, for the following:

Blue paint for four precast walls (see picture for the colour); bricks to rebuild a broken wall (see picture to estimate how many bricks will be needed); gas for the fridge; someone who can help to redo the Boksburg SPCA vehicle sign (it only reads ‘SPCA’); someone who can weld; cement, or someone who will help with the laying of concrete; four sets of wooden benches or tables; chairs; plants; someone who can unblock the toilet; someone who can put up shelves and shade netting in the cattery; little igloos (for the cats).

The society is also looking for a new receptionist.

If you’re willing to assist, contact the SPCA on 011 916 5906/7. – @IschkeBoksburg
