Four escape burning truck’s ‘flame hell’

Four people were injured when they jumped from the back of a burning truck on the N12 close to Atlas Road on Sunday evening, May 31..

Pieter Rossouw from ER24 said goods on the truck started burning while it was moving.

“Four people were in the back of the truck when the fire started,” said Rossouw.

“They jumped out of the truck while it was still in motion. The driver of the vehicle then stopped the truck and also got out of the vehicle.

“The four people that were in the back sustained injuries, but nothing too serious. The driver sustained no injuries.”

“When ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene they found the truck engulfed in flames on the highway.

“They treated and transported two patients to a nearby hospital for further treatment. The other two patients were transported by other services.”

It is still unclear how the fire started.
