Suspect charged in connection with horrific crash

One suspect has been arrested and charged with culpable homicide following the overnight crash involving two vehicles that left a woman and a child (3) dead.

Four other people also sustained critical injuries in the accident.

Initially it appeared the accident involved a head-on collision between a BMW and Toyota between ERPM Golf Club and the intersection of Main Reef and Pretoria roads around 9pm on Friday, May 22.

However, it has emerged the accident was apparently as a result of a reckless driver of a third car, driven by the charged suspect, who drove away after allegedly causing the crash.

It appears that the southbound BMW driver apparently swerved right to avoid hitting the suspect’s vehicle, which was reportedly being driven on the wrong side of the road.

The BMW then allegedly veered into oncoming traffic colliding with the northbound Toyota Auris head on.

On assessment, EMS officials found that the deceased woman and her two children were traveling in the green BMW, while a couple and their deceased child (3) were in the second vehicle.

The suspect will appear in court for a second time on June 4.
