Empowering the youth through dance

Rhythm2Sessions Production and Dance Studio is dedicated to the education and development of dance.

One of their visions is to build a facility in Reiger Park, to educate children in the art of dance and thus provide them with a different life, not focused on crime.

However, due to financial constraints, the studio seeks donations and sponsorships in the community.

“We have identified the need to uplift the underprivileged children within Reiger Park, the informal settlements and other areas in Boksburg,” said owners of the studio, Cheslyn and Hayley Henry.

“The Henrietta Dance Project (HDP) is a community upliftment programme in honour of Cheslyn’s mother, who passed away suddenly on January 12, 2014.

“Our vision, at the launch of this programme, was to identify 50 deserving, talented and needy children,” he said.

“In 2014 we worked with over 80 children from Lakeside Primary School in Reiger Park and the talent blew us away.

“Since January, this year, we have an additional 32 children from the community and surrounding areas who are now part of the HDP.

“We’ve been teaching the children outside on the tarmac, in their school uniforms, since August 5, 2014.

“With our winter season on its way, all training needs to be done indoors, yet Lakeside Primary School does not have a school hall. We, therefore, need a proper facility for these children in which to practise.

In addition to the classes, the studio provides students with the opportunity to compete in dance competitions on regional and national levels.

The studio stages at least one annual production and provides entertainment to corporate companies for end-of-year functions.
