Round Table chairperson wins top Gauteng Tabler accolade

Charl Scholtz was named the Gauteng Area Tabler of the Year 2014/15 – the same term as his chairmanship of Boksburg Round Table 17.

The award was handed over at the Round Table Gauteng Area induction dinner, on March 27.

“It is a huge honour to receive this award out of 100 men in Gauteng,” said Scholtz.

The award is made at the sole discretion of the current Gauteng Area chairperson for 2014/15, David Costine, in consultation with his council.

“One of the goals I achieved was to visit all 14 areas within Round Table South Africa – since last year’s national AGM in East London, to this year’s, in Windhoek,” said Scholtz, who has been with Round Table since 2013.

He urges any young man between the ages of 18 and 40, who feels the need to give back to his community, to consider Round Table as a means of doing so.

“You will be kept very busy, as the social calendar is pretty full and attending and supporting the events of other other tables is always fun,” he added.

“Unfortunately, my table career was very short, but I crammed as much into it as I possibly could; it has truly been an awesome ride and many friendships, locally and internationally, have been made, that will last me my lifetime.”

According to Leon Garbade, Round Table South Africa president 2014/15, Scholtz is a remarkable tabler.

“Not only did he see his commitments through as chairman of Round Table Boksburg 17, but he did indeed travel to all of our 14 areas and attended area conferences representing the Round Table Gauteng area, as well as his table,” said Garbade.

“This has come at a considerable cost to his own pocket and this, too, underpins his dedication to our wonderful association, as well as to his fellow tabling brothers.

“I have had the pleasure of seeing Charl and his wife (Annelette Bezuidenhout) at many of our area conferences and he has always been the epitome of a gentleman; I would like to thank him for that.”

Garbade thanked Scholtz for his monumental efforts and congratulated him on his nomination as South African Round Tabler of the Year 2014/15.

Costine agreed that it was great having Scholtz as a tabler.

“I travelled with Charl on many of his trips and throughout, at the places we visited, he was always part of any team,” he said.

“It was great to have him around and I believe we both got a friendship that will last forever out of Round Table.

“We are sad to see him hitting the age of 40, when you can no longer be in Round Table.”

However, Edenvale Round Table has offered Scholtz an honorary year, which he has accepted. He will, thus, remain in the Round Table organisation until his year is over.
