Pedestrian killed on her way from church by ‘drunk’ driver

An elderly pedestrian died in an accident on East Central Road in Dawn Park around 3pm on Sunday, May 17.

This is according to Dawn Park police spokesperson, Capt Charles Tshabalala.

The suspect, who was recklessly driving the vehicle, knocked over three people as they returned from church.

Apart from the woman who died, the other two are still in a critical condition in hospital.

“The driver is suspected to have been intoxicated and was driving faster than the 60km/h speed limit.”

Tshabalala said the suspect handed himself over to the police on Monday, May 20 because he feared the community would take the law into their own hands.

He has been charged with culpable homicide and drunken driving.

He is expected to appear in court soon.- @NalediBoksburg
