Dumped foetus was six months old

The foetus which was was found by municipal workers while they were unblocking a drain in Mapleton Extension 12 on Monday morning, May 11, appears to be around six months old.

This is according to Dawn Park police spokesperson Capt Charles Tshabalala.

“The foetus was apparently flushed down the toilet, hence it caused the drain blockage,” he said.

He added that the abandoning of foetuses or newborn babies appears to be a regular occurrence in some areas and that mothers need to act responsibly.

“Mothers need to remember that the government has facilities and specialised people who take care of abandoned children,” he said.

“If a parent cannot take care of the baby, then it is best they take them to the nearest facility instead of dumping them.”

The person responsible for dumping the foetus is still unknown, but an investigation has been launched. – @NalediBoksburg
