Police use helicopter to nab thieves in Boksburg South

Police took to the skies in a chopper to help catch men who hijacked a truck carrying goods this afternoon (May 13).

This is after a truck transporting cigarettes was hijacked in Springs.

Police gave chase on land and in the air.
An eye witness who wished to remain anonymous, said the men were cornered on N17 Highway near Rondebult Road in Boksburg South.
Traffic was delayed as a result.
Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora the driver of the delivery truck and his crew were offloading cigarettes when two armed men approached them and pointed guns at them
He said the suspects instructed the 49-year-old driver to get into the truck and drove off with him towards Edelweiss.

While waiting on the corner of Bosbok and Impala streets, they were soon joined by six more suspects who started offloading the boxes of cigarettes into another truck and drove away.
