Older model cars biggest target for thieves

Boksburg police have warned the community of a spike in the number of car thefts in the Boksburg CBD, since last month.

The police urge all vehicle owners to be vigilant, but report that older models of prestige vehicles are particularly attractive to Boksburg CBD thieves of late.

There were seven reports of vehicles being stolen in broad daylight, in the Boksburg policing precinct, during the period between April 24 and May 1.

Six of the thefts occurred on Commissioner and Leeuwpoort streets, in the central business district, while the seventh car was stolen from the Sunward Park Shopping Centre, on King Fisher Avenue.

Police officers said they have also received multiple reports of thefts from motor vehicles in the Boksburg CBD, since the beginning of the year, adding that some motorists are making it easy for criminals by leaving their cars unlocked.

Motorists are urged to ensure their vehicles are locked, all the windows are completely closed and that all items of value (handbags, phones, laptops, GPS and others) are hidden from view.

No arrests have been made in connection with these incidents.

Anyone who notices anything suspicious in parking areas is urged to immediately call the police.
