This is according to the branch chairperson, Marius de Vos.
“The Boksburg Post Office is degenerating into a makeshift toilet for vagrants,” said de Vos, who also complained about the graffiti on the outside walls.
“Post box holders cannot even reach their post, due to human waste on the floor in the corner of the post box area.
“Out of concern over health issues, members of the DA branch recently cleaned the premises around the post office.
Recently, DA Shadow Deputy Minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services Cameron Mackenzie, along with MPL Janet Semple, DA ward councillor Johan Hendricks and de Vos conducted another oversight visit to the facility.
The visit comes as a result of the prolonged battle with the post office management over the poor state of cleanliness.
“We are looking at a post office that should be running as a business, therefore it needs to be clean all the time,” said Mackenzie.
”If you look at the broken lights and infrastructure, it clearly means that there is no maintenance taking place at this particular post office.
“I understand that local members of the DA have tried to clean the area, but this is government property and it is an eyesore for the public.
According to Post Office acting area manager Veronica van der Nerscht, the area around the Boksburg Post Office is being managed and well taken care of.
“The only problem we are faced with is the growing grass, but other than that the area is being managed and is constantly cleaned,” she said.
