This is according to Alex Elshove, chairman of the East Rand Hiking Club.
“South Africa has the most amazing places to see and some of the best are only accessible on foot,” said Elshove.
“Belonging to a hiking club not only offers exciting challenges, it also provides social activities and companionship.”
The East Rand Hiking Club celebrated its 30th anniversary recently and has a wealth of experience to offer.
The program includes a variety of hikes suitable for beginners and experienced hikers.
Elshove said hike leaders are happy to give advice on all aspects of hiking.
Members of the club meet on the fourth Wednesday of every month, at Remax Offices, on Lakefield Avenue, Benoni (opposite Keg and Kingfisher), at 7.30pm.
The next social meeting will be held on May 27.
Visitors are welcome and will receive a program of hikes, plus the club’s newsletter.
