FINALLY! New fence erected to keep geese safe

A new fence has finally been erected around the dam at the Leon Ferreira Fire Station, after two years of complaints.

Following years of residents insisting that the geese were in danger of being run over by motorists, because of the broken fence around the dam, the metro appointed a contractor to address the issue in February.

“The contractor visited the site on February 6 and all the project managers were made aware of the level of importance of this project, and that it should be given first priority when it comes to fencing projects,” said metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe.

According to Ward 22’s Clr Benno Robinson, the funds to repair the fence had been obtained by September, last year, and were sufficient to span a 1.4km clear-view fence around the area.

Robinson now wants to start a support group, who will be willing to feed the geese on a regular basis.
