Robbers abandon loot, car following chase

EMPD officers managed to recover stolen goods after reacting to a house robbery, in Botha Avenue, Cinderella, at around mid-day, on April 13.

After receiving a call regarding a housebreaking, members of the EMPD responded swiftly and, upon arriving in Botha Avenue, they spotted a gold Toyota Corolla fleeing the scene.

Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesman, said members of the SAPS, the Boksburg Precinct, the Equestrian Unit and Crime Prevention Task Team joined the chase.

“Three male occupants in the Toyota Corolla abandoned the vehicle, at the entrance of Angelo Squatter Camp, in Witfield, and disappeared among the throngs of residents and managed to evade arrest,” said Kgasago.

In the abandoned vehicle, officers found a 9mm pistol, three plasma TVs, two laptops and jewellery.

“It came to light that the Toyota Corolla, fitted with false number plates, was hijacked in Pretoria West, in February.

“The recovered firearm was stolen in a house burglary, in March, in Bedfordview,” said Kgasago.

Housebreaking implements were also found in the vehicle.

The stolen goods were positively identified as items taken from the house in Botha Avenue.

The firearm and the recovered goods were booked in at Boksburg Police Station.

The recovered vehicle was taken to the Van Rhyn Deep Pound in Benoni.

The hunt is on for the three suspects.
