Head of the National Business Initiative’s Private Sector Energy Efficiency Project (PSEE), Valerie Green, told guests at the Afrique Boutique Hotel, in Boksburg, that it was important to raise awareness and educate companies on how to save energy.
PSEE aims to improve energy efficiency in commercial and industrial companies in South Africa, through the provision of various services, to assist companies in identifying and implementing energy saving measures.
The NBI recently won a bid worth millions from the UK Department for International Development, to implement a countrywide programme of support to the private sector in Energy Efficiency improvement.
The project, which comes under the UK-SA Bilateral relationship, is funded by the UK Government’s Department for International Development and will contribute to the South African Government’s strategy for reducing energy demand.
The PSEE Project is governed by a multi-stakeholder steering committee, led by the Department of Energy.
“For small businesses, we are offering a R30 000 sponsorship in order to conduct an energy audit at companies to work on a solution of finding ways to save energy and money,” said Green.
“For large businesses, we are offering subsidised support.”
She said the programme is all about using energy efficiently.
