Shakes Purrs William crowned as Top Cat of the Day

Shakes Purrs William, owned and bred by Hannelie Rohrs, from Pretoria, was the Top Cat of the Day at the National Cat Society exhibition, held at the Boksburg Civic Centre, on March 21.

The society presented an exhibition of 13 different breeds of fabulous felines on the day.

The breeds were:

Birmans – the Birman has a pointed coat pattern, very similar to that of the Siamese but distinguishes itself as a breed from other pointed breeds by the characteristic white areas on the paws.

Ragdolls – A cat with a pointed coat pattern and medium length fur. A docile type of cat, with a quiet temperament.

Singapuras – A very small breed of cat with short, sleek fur. Known as the “drain cats of Singapore”, they are pretty cats with, a friendly nature.

Somali – A breathtaking cat with a resemblance to a little fox, with large ears, full ruff and bushy tail. Fur is medium length, fine and soft to the touch. Lively and alert cats, with a friendly nature.

Black Asians – Short-haired cats, elegant and muscular with jet black glossy fur. Active and friendly cats.

Bengals – A short-haired cat of wild origin. The spotted patterning is highly distinctive, in that the large spots are arranged horizontally. A muscular cat with a dusting of gold on the coat.

Burmese – A short-haired, elegant but muscular cat, with a fine, glossy satin-like coat.

Abyssinian – A medium sized cat with a muscular body and a short, lustrous coat. These cats have remained relatively unchanged for thousands of years and closely resemble the paintings and sculptures of ancient Egyptian cats.

Persian – A cat with a compact build and profuse, long-haired coat. Considering it’s size, it is a graceful cat with a sweet, quiet temperament.

Oriental – A Siamese-type cat without the points. Today we have spotted, striped and ticked Oriental tabbies, as well as bi-colours, shaded and silvers, and the ever-popular solid colours.

Siamese – One of the most popular breeds of cat. A long, elegant body and a tapering, wedge-shaped head. Vivid blue eyes, a very talkative and affectionate cat.

Cornish Rex – A cat with a short wavy coat and a slender, masculine body. These cats come in a range of colours and get along with anyone, even dogs.

Maine Coon – Known as the gentle giants, these are medium length-haired cats with dense, rugged coats. They have independent natures and are keen hunters. – @NalediBoksburg
