Sewage woes: City plagued by sewerage blockages

Lately it appears as if Boksburg has been plagued by a number of sewerage blockages.

The Advertiser is aware of the following blockages and reported it to the Ekurhuleni Metro:

* Pretoria Road, near Rondebult Road

Sewage has allegedly been flowing for approximately three weeks.

“Why don’t the metro attend to this matter, as it is a health risk and on a very busy road?” asked the complainant.

“A friend of mine has reported it to the metro, but they seem to be taking their time.”

For the past four years, Nicki Ramage has dealt with extensive sanitation problems on her property.

According to her, sewage constantly pours into her garden because of sewerage blockages either in the street behind her or somewhere else in the nearby vicinity.

“Sewage spilling into my yard causes huge problems as the water forms into dam where it becomes stagnant, flooding my laundry, driveway and outside rooms.

“My property has already suffered extensive damage,” said Ramage.

At times she is unable to let her animals navigate the garden.

“Last year, my dog picked up a bad infection due the uric acid in the water.

“What does it also help if the metro unblocks the drains but does not clean up or sanitise my yard?”

Ramage insists that the metro conduct regular sewerage checks before obstructions leads to sewage spilling into her garden.

By the time of publication, the Advertiser has not received responses from the metro on this matter, or regarding the property in Pretoria Road.

* Property in Sky Street, Boksburg North:

According to the complainant, the blockage had been reported multiple times over the past month before it was finally fixed..

The resident even went to the municipal offices and was told that the problem can’t be fixed.

According to the metro spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, metro officials cleared the blockage last week.

“The blockage was caused by sand and other objects that were thrown into an open manhole, located in the veld next to the storm water channel.” -@IschkeBoksburg
