Police foil theft of R247 000 worth of Eskom cables

A suspect was caught red-handed stealing Eskom cables worth R247 000 behind a shop in Main Reef Road around 8.15am on March 12.

The cables weighs 4 121kg and is worth around R247 000.

It also appears that Eskom workers are involved in the theft.

According to the Boksburg North SAPS communication officer, Lieut Juanita Coetzer, Warrant Officers Rudie Bezuidenhout and Anton du Plessis, along with Const Heinreich Bester, visited a premises in Lillianton when they came across the suspect.

“The suspect was busy cutting up the cables with a grinder for transportation purposes,” said Coetzer.

“The officers established that the cables positively belong to Eskom.”

The cables were confiscated and the suspect was arrested for the possession of stolen cables.
