The cables weighs 4 121kg and is worth around R247 000.
It also appears that Eskom workers are involved in the theft.
According to the Boksburg North SAPS communication officer, Lieut Juanita Coetzer, Warrant Officers Rudie Bezuidenhout and Anton du Plessis, along with Const Heinreich Bester, visited a premises in Lillianton when they came across the suspect.
“The suspect was busy cutting up the cables with a grinder for transportation purposes,” said Coetzer.
“The officers established that the cables positively belong to Eskom.”
The cables were confiscated and the suspect was arrested for the possession of stolen cables.
Coetzer believes more arrests will follow in due course. – @IschkeBoksburg
