Reiger Park still plagued with violence

Three people were killed in separate incidents in Reiger Park, over the weekend.

A 55-year-old Mozambican gardener, Pedro Mafum, was killed in his vegetable garden, next to the small tributary, in Ramaphosa.

His body was found on February 27, and his head and neck bore minor cuts and bruises.

No arrests have been made and the motive for the killing is not yet known.

Police are investigating a case of murder.

n On February 28, a gunman fatally shot Mduduzi Mthimkhulu four times, outside a tavern at the Mzikinya Hostel, in the Slovo informal settlement, Reiger Park.

The gunman is still at large and police urge anyone who saw the incident or the killers, or who knows who they are, to contact the police immediately.

n Domestic worker Robert Theron, believed to be in his 40s, was killed in an apparent incident of domestic violence, in Reiger Park, on Saturday, February 28.

“We received a call from a Reiger Park resident, complaining that his grandson was assaulting the family’s domestic worker, at about 3pm,” said Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson, Sgt Mashudu Phathela.

“‘Police went to the house and found the man lying dead on the back room floor.”

“The officers found a brick that they believe was possibly used in the killing of the domestic worker.”

The suspect, a 32-year-old man, was arrested for murder and appeared in court on Tuesday, March 3.
