Metro aware of ‘inhuman’ conditions at ‘scary’ house

House 36, in Second Street (Boksburg North) is described by neighbours as ''a scary place''.

A resident recently complained that the house is not being cared for and is filled with rodents and flies, due to the apparent non-caring attitude of the owners.

“Inside, the house holds many dangers, such as disposed electrical cords.”

The house is a occupied by tenants who are keeping up to date with their payments, even though there are problems with some of the electricity connections.

Ekurhuleni Metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe said they are aware of the situation.

“This property forms part of the multi-disciplinary action that was undertaken by various departments, specifically targeting conditions at illegal accommodation establishments,” said Gadebe.

Gadebe added: “Subsequently, re-inspections revealed no change from the initial inspections and 36 Second Street was referred to the contracted legal firm for prosecution.

“City Development is the department appointed to coordinate all efforts and progress with legal action thus far.”

Another such problematic property is apparently 17 Sky Street, and the metro said they are investigating it as well.
