Bail granted to accused in satanic sex ritual case

A Witfield pastor, the grandparents and uncle of a 9-year-old boy whom they allegedly raped and molested in an apparent satanic ritual, have been granted bail.

The four were released on a R4000 bail each in the Germiston Magistrates Court on March 3.

The case has been postponed to March 18.

SAPS’s Occult-Related Crime Unit investigating officer Col Hendrick de Jager said the court set strict bail conditions which includes that they report to the police station several times a week.

Police report that interviews with the child had revealed that the group had allegedly raped and molested the boy multiple times over the years.

Women And Men Against Child Abuse (WMACA) said it is utterly appalled that the Germiston court granted bail to the four alleged child.

WMACA advocacy manager, Germaine Vogel said: “The boy and his parents and police members report receiving threats of violence for reopening this case – who will be held accountable should harm be done to the victim and those taking action to protect him?”

Vogel said child rape is a scourge and the State needs to adopt a zero tolerance stance against all child rapists.

“Suspected child rapists should be assumed guilty until proven innocent and should be held in custody until the courts have decided whether or not to proceed with sentencing,” said Vogel.
