Oman presents great business opportunities

A great business opportunity is awaiting local businesses.

When the Ekurhuleni Business Initiative Forum (EBI) celebrated its 14th birthday recently, the members also discussed exciting business opportunities waiting in Oman.

Guest speaker at the function Jan van Wyk, CEO of the South Africa-Oman Friendship Association, unpacked available opportunities to conduct business in the Arabian country.

Van Wyk has been living in Oman for 10 years now and promotes business between the two countries.

In the near future, Oman will, for example, be constructing a 2200 km railway and the expertise of South Africans are sought.

The project is expected to be completed in three years and Beckers, in Alberton, has already been contracted to build tunnels.

Beckers also constructed tunnels for the Gautrain.

EBI CEO Chris van Biljon said Oman is looking for expertise in engineering, manufacturing, agriculture and various other sectors.

Van Biljon said that, so far, more than 20 businesspeople have signed up to go to Oman and he is inviting more to come along.

“We are leaving on April 24 and will return on May 1 – it’s a seven-day trip over the holidays,” said van Biljon.

“We will be accompanied by Oman Chamber of Commerce members and there will be match-making opportunities for different skills.”
