Pipeline project apparently complete, yet open trenches remain

The long outstanding installation, and upgrade, of new water pipeline has infuriated Atlasville residents.

The unfinished project has left massive holes in the suburb.

According to Ward 23 Clr André du Plessis, the project was implemented last year.

Residents now want action taken against the contractors who are responsible for the upgrade.

Atlasville residents are furious over the shocking state in which the suburb has been left.

However, according to metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe, the process of installing the water pipe is now complete.

“The open trenches are for the house connections and where the pipe is supposed to tie in with the existing pipe.

“The service provider has already filled open trenches and barricaded unsafe trenches.

“The connection and commissioning of the water pipe will be done on Friday, February 20.

“All house connections will be finalised on the same day, making sure that every house is getting water supply from the newly laid pipe.

“The project commenced during the last financial year, and there were delays on the project due to non performance of the contractor on the site. The department has appointed an annual contractor (Lettam Construction), who is now on site to finish off the project.”

Gadebe added that the department will also improve on the execution of future projects, as well as in communication with the affected areas. – @NalediBoksburg
